You forgot to mention what sound card you got, but try the sound card's XP drivers to see if this high pitched hum goes away.

I think Tha_Filer said something about issues with movies and sound on W2K3Server. I know WinME had similar problems with Win Media Player for a short time. Earlier this afternoon a friend of mine tried a movie with the Server Editon and had the same problem. He is using a SB Live 5.1. Oddly enough he does not experience the wine with audio CDs.

Im experience this issue with a very simaler card, a soundblaster 512 gamer, it actully regiters as a Live....ill try the xp drivers..then ill repost

Maybe this will help a little. We replaced the OEM SB Live 5.1 with a Retail model and solved the problem today. Just for kicks I pulled the Retail model and shoved the OEM back in. Win2K3Server went through a hardware update and it works. No wine! Go figure?

Now thats just odd.... hum i wonder why a retail would work any better...maybe the drivers are better....can u hook up a link to those drivers, maybe that would do the trick

What do you expect? Its not like a company will have the most expensive and resource consuming sound cards in their server. I know most companies I've worked for have the standard build in ATI Rage 8mb video card in their server, and nothing else related to multimedia.

Yea i guess its not ment to do this type of thing, but sort of odd that even such a basic and commen card doesnt work. Further, its odd that Win2k server has the proper drivers.

actually.. u should approach mickeysoft on this.. as they got the "supposed" approved drivers :) so ask them for your soundcard driver.. they should tell u whether they can or not

Update: I poped in a Creative Live! Value Moved around the Pci devices and it autoDetected with the proper working driver. The sound is now working just fine.
