Wicket20519 Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 My neighbor called me the other day, saying her Lexmark Z705 inkjet printer was printing documents fine EXCEPT for envelopes. When my neighbor had first bought the printer, it only printed text on envelopes in red ink. Now, for some reason, it won't print black ink on envelopes. It seems to print color fine, but not black.I've done multiple print page tests, and the black ink is just fine. Comes out nice and solid, no missing parts or anything. But when it comes time to print an envelope, apparently the black ink magically turns into invisible ink! That's cool and all....but how will the mail lady know where the envelope is going?Any ideas?
DigeratiPrime Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 thats weird, have you tried 'Cartridge Cleaning'?http://support.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/suppor...7:0:0&emeaframei owned one of their printers once, it was a POS.
Andromeda43 Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 There is only one fix for a Lexmark printer. It's called a 'trash masher' !They are, after all, throw-away devices.

Yes, did the Cartridge Cleaning. Like I said, the black come out fine on everything but the envelopes; only invisible ink on the envelopes...But thanks for the suggestion! There is only one fix for a Lexmark printer. It's called a 'trash masher' !They are, after all, throw-away devices. :cheers:Haha! I told my neighbor if all else fails, it'd be cheaper to get a new one then to have it repaired. This printer was one of those free ones you get with an eMachine.....Granted the eMachine turned out to be very nice, but the printer....heh....
Andromeda43 Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 (edited) Don't tell anyone,,,,OK?I'm a factory trained printer tech on five different makes of printers. SHHHHHHHH!I've set up four Epson repair centers here in FL.My favorite printer of the bunch is the Epson.I have three of them here on my own printer table. My favorite one, is the CX3200, all in one. (printer, scanner, copier)I got it, Refurbished, for just $69.You can get some really great bargains from Epson's own web site. They usually have free shipping too.I've installed a dozen or so Epson printers for my customers this year so far.No problems yet. (knocking on wood)Most of the ones I've replaced have been Lexmarks, with a couple of HP's thrown in for good measure.I have an ink supplier here in FL, where I get ink for just a fraction of store prices.www.inkproducts.comTheir ink meets or exceedes manufacturers spec's.My best advise to anyone needing a good printer is: "Buy Epson".On any one of my three Epsons, I can print 3x5 cards, envelopes, 1/4 sheets, business cards and CD labels. My Photo R-200 even prints directly on CD's.Cheers,Andromeda43 Edited November 10, 2005 by Andromeda43
lylo Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 (edited) Don't know if this is turning into a 'Recommend a Printer' post but if it is, you really can not go wrong with the Epson Stylus C64, it really is such a budget user printer but it does such a fantastic job and is easy as pie to maintain. If photo printing is your bag than this can do them perfectly too, got me a kick a** A4 print on photo paper the other day of my niece and nephew, the colour is big bold and bright, not a single spot thats faint on there, and it looks professionally done, great printer for whatll probably be dirt cheap now!And as for ink, go here! Zxian Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 If you want a really good (relatively) cheap laser printer, the Samsung ML-1740 is a good choice. About 5 friends and I have them (after my recommendations to them) and they're rock solid. The only down side to them is that the driver configuration can be a pain in Linux, but with Windows it's a snap.
DigeratiPrime Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Did you try replacing the cartridges? Also what software are you using to print the envelopes? Could you try printing the envelope on a full size sheet of paper just to test?^arent the epsons supposed to be the better ones if you refill the carts yourself?^ i got my ml-1740 at buy.com for $34 AR!
Andromeda43 Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Epson refills are great if you use Epson approved ink....one ink does NOT fit all.To refill Epson carts, you also need a chip resetter. I have one and the refill kits for all my Epson printers.I buy factory filled carts for my C62 and CX3200 so cheap that I've not refilled a cart in about a year. They use the same cart. But, if I get caught with my carts down....I CAN refill. My "Photo R-200" uses six different carts. I bought a refill kit for it from www.inkproducts.comfor around $120. The kit includes six clear plastic carts, six bottles of ink and six hypo's to put the ink in the carts. Factory carts for the R-200 cannot be refilled.Cheers,Andromeda43
Wicket20519 Posted November 16, 2005 Author Posted November 16, 2005 Thanks to all for your input! The issue has been resolved. We replaced the color cartridge, because it was empty. Well, it now prints fine on the envelope in "black" and in color.Microsoft Works was the program used to print on the envelope. Apparently, some word processor programs don't actually tell the printer to print black using, well, black. Instead, it's a really really really dark grey, and draws all its ink from the color cartridge. There's supposed to be a setting in the word processor where you can change it to print in "true black." Anyone have any idea where that is?
