Tomcat76 Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Could anyone tell me where to find (and download) the installation files for Windows Update v4 (needed for Windows Update Catalog) and Office Update (for updating Office)?A search on the boards didn't show any relevant results....Thanks.
the_guy Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Just go to v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog and the office update web site. They will install the files on their own.
Tomcat76 Posted November 5, 2005 Author Posted November 5, 2005 (edited) <sarcasm>If I go to Windows Update, I can also get v6.</sarcasm>I want to HFSLIP them just like I HFSLIPped v6. Edited November 5, 2005 by Tomcat76
tommyp Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 It took 4 minutes to google for this:http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/CAB/...7861.8992013889Extract the files and place into the hfexpert\codec folder (the codec folder copies to system32 and registers the dlls). I'm not sure if it will work or not though. I never tried it (and never will).
Tomcat76 Posted November 6, 2005 Author Posted November 6, 2005 Is this WU v4?Would you mind telling me how you've found it? I've searched for these somewhere during the summer for more than an hour and then gave up out of frustration...
tommyp Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Easy. Went to google.com, typed in windowsupdate v4 cab download and clicked search.
the_guy Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 You can get the office update cab at:http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/content/opuc3.cab.
Tomcat76 Posted November 6, 2005 Author Posted November 6, 2005 Thanks... and sorry for my earlier comment.
the_guy Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 It's ok. I must have typed the URL wrong or something.
Tomcat76 Posted November 6, 2005 Author Posted November 6, 2005 Extract the files and place into the hfexpert\codec folder (the codec folder copies to system32 and registers the dlls). I'm not sure if it will work or not though. I never tried it (and never will).Great. Only two issues:1) During Windows setup, I'm being asked for the location of iuctl.dll. It thinks it's in WINNT\HFSLIP whereas it's in WINNT\SYSTEM32. I've changed the path manually.2) WU4 and Office Update work like a charm, but WU6 seems screwed up by this.I'll test some more in the days to come and will post back. Thanks for putting me on the right track.
Tomcat76 Posted November 6, 2005 Author Posted November 6, 2005 OK... This is it.1) opuc.dll and opuc.inf from the Office Update CAB go in CODECS2) iuctl.cat, iuctl.dll and iuctl.inf from the WU4 CAB go in WIN\SYSTEM32HFSLIP takes care of registering WU4 while registering WU6 (WUA 2.0). It's important to leave out iuengine.dll from the WU4 CAB package because it's an older version than the one from WU6. If you leave that one in, HFSLIP will register WU4 but not WU6.Meanwhile, CMDOW.EXE ceased to hide the HFSLIP window during installation. I don't know if it's an (obvious) error on my part or a side effect from adding the OU and WU4 files in.Will be back.
Tomcat76 Posted November 6, 2005 Author Posted November 6, 2005 (edited) Got it, and it's not related to WU4 and/or OU.http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=59997 Edited November 6, 2005 by Tomcat76
Tomcat76 Posted November 21, 2005 Author Posted November 21, 2005 Minor update...I just tried this with Windows XP but WUv4 didn't install properly. Office Update works.Oh well... You can't have everything...
