Disable: Use common tasks in folders / Use Windows classic folder

Featured Replies

Disable Visual Effects -> Disable: Use common tasks in folders

and

Speed -> Use Windows classic folders / No Tasks Sidepanel

What's the difference?

  • 8 months later...

But it's clear!

classic view: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/s...ew/folders.mspx

common tasks : http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...b.mspx?mfr=true

classic view :

To change folder options

1.

Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options. Or, open any folder, such as My Documents, and on the Tools menu, click Folder Options.

2.

On the General tab, under Tasks, select Use Windows classic folders.

Choosing this option hides the Task Pane as shown in Figure 5 below. It also makes the Category view in Control Panel unavailable. Click Show common tasks in folders to restore the Task Pane and the option for Category View in Control Panel.

Common tasks:
1.

Open Folder Options in Control Panel.

• Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

• Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.

2.

On the General tab, under Tasks, click Show common tasks in folders.

The difference is so obvious : on the common task page, there is no screenshot ! :o

Yes, we understand the difference between classic and common task views, however the two registry tweaks appear to offer the same functionality, hence the original poster asking what the difference is.

Take care,

I think they are just the sames.

MS says :

'Use Windows classic folders.'(1)

or, 'Show common tasks in folders'(2)

In folder options,

As far as I see, there is no difference at all.

  • 2 weeks later...

however, the tweak by nlite to disable the fool Common Folder Tasks doesn't work, I don't know why,

plz guyz, provide me with the reg tweak to manually implment the tweak by REGEDIT/ S

Edited by Wesmosis

Hello guys!

NLite applies the wrong value to that key and I still reported this to nuhi so he will fix this soon!

The nlite.inf key responsable for the common tasks panel is :

HKCU,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced","WebView",0x00010001,0

and of course should be 0x00010001,1 to enable the web view.

So this should be the registry file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"WebView"=dword:00000001

Mine to disable is :

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\WebView]
"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000

Imported at T-12 with cmdlines.txt. ;)

@Camerade Tux : What exactly is the effect of this?

Mine does enable the webview ( no common tasks in explorer ) but your tweak doesn't seem to affect anything..?

Sorry ... I don't see a result here...

Mine disables WebView (which is enable by default). I think it will only work at T-12/T-13, before the creation of the different accounts.
