hakeem5454 Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 i have a 80GB harddrive thats 5400? rpm or something. Im not sure what rpm it is but its not 7200 im sure of that. Will it still work in my computer?
Zxian Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 If it fits and the connectors are the same, then it'll work.
hakeem5454 Posted October 6, 2005 Author Posted October 6, 2005 ok so if i hook it up to my computer, how do i format it so i can use it for data storage? I think theres stuff on it so i want to hook it up and format it and then in my computer have it show up as as a secod drive(eg. Local disk(C:\), then beside it Local disk(Letter:\), where C is my first harddrive and Letter is my second one?
ringfinger Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 (edited) Well, you would have to get a modular device for it of some sort I would think. Like on my laptop I can either have 2 batteries attached, or 1 battery and cd/dvd/second hard drive. I don't think there are any laptops out there that can support 2 drives internally are there? I'd look for modular internal attachments which can house the hd so you'll be able to run both at once. Or an external USB enclosure is an option as well. Edited October 6, 2005 by ringfinger
ringfinger Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 (edited) Well then, didn't know... if its for your desktop just get a IDE converter to go from laptop IDE to standard IDE along with power and hook it up like this. Format with Windows or the many other apps. It will work in your computer and be recognized as a standard drive! Sry, I just assumed that since it was a laptop drive you wanted it in a laptop. dirtwarrior Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 hook up the big hd as primary or master and hook up the second as secondary or slave with the same ise cable
hakeem5454 Posted October 7, 2005 Author Posted October 7, 2005 ok i hooked it up without any extra cables or anything and it works fine. Is that normal? because i didnt use any cables like ringfinger said
ripken204 Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 well if it work then it works, can u explain what ur trying to do again. desktop to laptop? or dektop to dekstop?
hakeem5454 Posted October 8, 2005 Author Posted October 8, 2005 umm..nothing to desktop?i found a 40gb harddrive in my drawer and decided to use it.i think it was from my old computeror from a pvr reciever, not sure.
ringfinger Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 So basically it's just an old IDE drive running @ 5400rpm... ahhhhhhhh. I thought it was a laptop hd as that's the standard speed..
