buying a cpu retail

Featured Replies

if i buy a cpu with the stock heatsink and fan, does it come with instructions on how to put them on?

Yes. I just bought a P4 650 and it came with instructions on attaching the h/s to the chip once in a board and all that. be sure to read the manual that came with your mobo as well.

what if i bought like an amd athlon 64 3000+? that should come with one right?

The AMDs will come with a Heatsink/Fan... and the instructions, if you buy the Retail box instead of OEM... The heatsink is made out of Aluminum.. If you plan to overclock then I would recommend a better heat/fan...

When you do start to overclock make sure u upgrade the Heatsink...

All retail boxed items come with Instructions etc, u should even get a case badge :P did with the semprons anyway :P

yep retail fans are normally low quality and loud but they do there Job ;)

My Athlon 64 did, and it is pimpin' on case right now... lol.... :w00t:

I purchased an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ retail, and it came with instructions and heatsink/fan. Everyone above is correct that it won't keep you going with overclocking for long periods of time, I've gotten my 3000+ up to a 3800+ with the standard cooling...I turned it back down because I don't want to end its life prematurely and I don't need the extra speed, but the heatsink/fan combo is certainly high quality for a bundled solution.
