andyd Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Is there still no better way of doing this? Just want to make sure before I go ahead and replace it on my bro's computer. Rather not use a older version of a file if it isn't necessary.
chilifrei64 Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 he is talking about the termsrv.dll version like 2550 or something like that used in a RC of XP SP2. If you replace this dll it will allow for a user to log on via Remote Desktop without loggin on the console userand to answer the question.. no.. not unless you use like VNC or some variation of this sorta thing. The dll is fine though.. even though it is an older version.. it is only used for the one specific function and should not effect anything else on the computer
SoreGums Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 what about replacing the file via script that runs just after the splash screen disappears and windows logon appears?I'm in Sydney(city1), computer is in Brisbane(city2).I can only interact with the PC via Remote Desktop Connection.I need a script that can delete/replace the file in the dllcache & system32You know how chkdsk & partition magic & other tools can kick in before the windows logon process starts, how do you interact in that part of the boot process???TIA
ixion Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 would someone please explain this to me a bit moreWhat is it that you are trying to acheive and what is it exactly that this file allows you to do, it sounds very interesting but I'm not sure exactly what it is you are talking aboutLogging into a console sessions without locking the user out or something?

Davor Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Logging into a console sessions without locking the user out or something?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>yes. XP Supports only 1 user logged and 'interactive' with the PC.I would like to know if this thing is stable? Anyone had 'unpleasant issues" with it?Davor
SoreGums Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 after much time installing xp sp2 brand new & updating it in a vmware sessionthis method in the sig9.com article works fine...granted i haven't done much with it yet as i was purely just getting it to work.the only problem will come when an update overrides the dll and you'll have to replace it again i'm guessing.
ixion Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 ok I've given it a read - from what I understand you have to have quick switching enabled, so this will not work in a domain environment as adding to a domain disables quick switching

SoreGums Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 something we use at work ...Start -> Help and Support -> Ask For Assistance<{POST_SNAPBACK}>How's that help the people at home who need to access the computer at the same time as different people?Remote Desktop is no way is equal to Remote assistance, surely you know this........
andyd Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 Alright, thanks guys. I guess I'll stick with replacing the termsrv with the older file
