September 7, 200520 yr I have been attempting to upgrade to Windows 2000. The Dialog greys out the Upgrade option leaving me with just the clean install. How can I remedy this?
September 7, 200520 yr Is there any reason why you need to perform an upgrade? A clean is install is much better.Anyway, to answer your question, you need to have a Retail Licence Key in order to perform an Upgrade. OEM Keys only support Clean Install. I think anyway correct me if I'm wrong somebody. I assume you dont have a VLK.
September 7, 200520 yr Can you upgrade to 2000 from a Win9x based system? Hell, even if you could I would doubt you find anyone here who would actually suggest it...cut your loses and go for the clean install.
September 25, 200520 yr Definitely do a clean install, get ME the hell off your system. I used fdisk to completely reformat my drive. Get behind me, Satan!Of course, it completely wipes your drive, so you have to re-install everything from scratch. Edited September 25, 200520 yr by Egon's Dragon
September 26, 200520 yr haha, white stripes.anyway, my experience is doing an upgrade will cost you countless hours of application compatibility issues, patching, etc...go for the clean install.
September 27, 200520 yr I forgot about that...but even before that, they don't allow an upgrade from Win98 or Win95 I think.
September 28, 200520 yr they do - 98 can go to nt4 - to go to 2000inconvienitent - and not even worth the effort but can be done
