Give k-lite mega codec pack a try. Please let me know how it goes. It is the codec pack sleepnmojo suggested to me.

I'm not sure if ffdshow includes rm and qt support (anyone?).

I use k-lite mega codec pack. I associate all the real and quicktime files with media player classic. I also install the plugins for firefox, so that I can view them in my browser.

now how do u turn off overlay for mpc? ati's new driver is rly stupid and i have to turn off overlay to play videos.

First of all, if you want to make use of my FilterPack, you have to disable the appropiate filters within the MPC options. Then it makes use of the FilterPack.

And ripken204, what kind of media files were you trying to play then?

vlc wins hands down. never had a problem with it and has not been unable to play any file ive thrown at it. mpc ive had far to many problems with to use anymore.
