XP Pro: mount two network shares

Recommended Posts

Hey

with XP Pro, I would like to be able to mount two shares at the one time, one with the username "office" (with its password) and one with the username "private" (and its password).

It seems that I cannot mount two shares with different usernames at the same time with XP. Is this true?

If so, what is the workaround?

How exactly do you try to mount the two shares and what's the error message, if you get one?

To my knowledge you should be able to connect to different shares with different useraccounts at the same time. Just make sure to connect with the acurate useraccount.

the workaround is to either add a second ip address to the file storage computer and map to that

OR

..... and i just tried this.. kinda silly....

Map one to the computer name and map the other to the ip address...

I just tried it and it would let me do one AND the other but not both of the same..

Hope this helps you:-D

I can connect, as chilifrei64 rightly says, to one share at a time, but not to both at the same time.

I have not yet tried it with a different IP address.

THe error I get when I try and mount the second share is:

The network folder specified is currently mapped using a different user name and password. To connect using a different user name and password, first disconnect any existing mappings to this network share.

Thanks

I think you miss understood me... I said not the same.. not "not at the same time"

I just tried this.

I made 2 mapped drives

Drive 1

z:

\\my_server\The_Beast

Username: My_Username

Password: My_Password

Drive 2

y:

\\192.168.0.11\The_Beast

Username: Administrator

Password: My_Administrator_Password

I hope this clears up my last post. Am I completely mis understanding your question?
