prathapml Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 I need to be able to send SMS (text messages) from my windows desktop, via my Symbian OS-based, series60, Nokia 3230 smartphone. The Nokia PC Suite versions till v6.5 never did support this function till now, for Symbian phones. Now, the version 6.6 claims to support symbian-based phones as well. Supposedly, the older phones do work fine now, to send SMS directly from PC.But my 3230 is STILL not supported. Any ideas why?And instead of waiting for next version, any other apps which can do this?
indianarchie Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Dunno about the Nokia PC Suite..but to synchronize between the PC and the cell phone, try Float's Mobile Agent. It's a great application (FREE!) which lets u transfer files, archive messages, set alarms and more. You can also reply to SMS messages by typing the reply in ur comp itself. And best of all, it turns ur bluetooth cell into a remote control..great when u want to watch a movie on ur comp and cant be nothered to get up to play/pause and change volume! Check it out at:fma.sourceforge.netLet me have ur feedback on this application!
prathapml Posted September 3, 2005 Author Posted September 3, 2005 FMA seems to be for only Sony-Ericsson.It doesn't even seem to detect my phone! (nokia 3230). Either that, or I'm doing something wrong. Will try fiddling with it some more....
indianarchie Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Have u tried applying the latest patches to FMA? Use the internal webupdate feature (Under the help menu, as 'check for updates' or similar.) to download and install the latest patches. Then see if it detects ur phone.
prathapml Posted September 5, 2005 Author Posted September 5, 2005 Yup, I am using the latest stable version (v2.0 currently).Any other apps that can do this?
indianarchie Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Use the beta with the latest updates prathapml..tht's what worked for me.
cyanide Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 are you sure fma works with nokia phones...the authors made it specifically for that sony ericsson phone (forgot the no, something like t680 i think)...and it doesnt even work properly with other se phones, forget about nokia phones...
Bas Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 (edited) I'v just installed PCsuite 6.6.16.I have Nokia 6630 and sending sms works ok.First time when sending, PCsuite asked to instal something on my phone (smssync if I'm not mistaken). You need to install it.After install message was sent.I tried FMA when I had SEk700, and even than I had problems. Nice gui but to much bugs! Edited September 6, 2005 by Bas
mandoora Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 (edited) I am eagerly waiting for Pc Suite to send SMS also. However in the mean time, OPM for Symbian deffinately does work for sending SMS on 3230. Edited September 12, 2005 by mandoora
prathapml Posted September 13, 2005 Author Posted September 13, 2005 Which version of OPM are you using?I believe v2.5 onwards, supports 3230, and I'm using it, but the trial version adds 13 characters as advertisement of its own site.
EchoNoise Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 mobile action has an application which works good... don't know about symbian phones... but you can have a look www.mobileaction.com
mandoora Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I'm using ver. 2.7, i'm not sure about the extra characters etc. but if that is the case you'd probably have to get a key for it.
prathapml Posted September 21, 2005 Author Posted September 21, 2005 Mobile-Action wants specific hardware...And getting a key for Oxygen-Symbian v2.7, I doubt i'd do that - any freeware?
EchoNoise Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 I use MobiMB Mobile Media Browser.. but thats just for ringtones, games and wallpaper... and thats all I really need... but there is a another package that MobiMB makes that has contact information and calendar sync...(forgot the website, sorry guys )
prathapml Posted September 24, 2005 Author Posted September 24, 2005 but there is a another package that MobiMB makes that has contact information and calendar sync...<{POST_SNAPBACK}>MobilEdit ?But that does not support symbian phones! Also, my main need is (SMS) text messages - to be able to send them directly from PC, using my phone as a gateway (via bluetooth).
