Hewwo everybody! :hello:

Now hopefully in the next few months I'm gonna get my hands on a considerable amount of moolah (Gotta love student support loans huh  ), and with a bit of careful planning and working out I should have a good amonut of that free to spend on something nice.

Now seeing as I've put up with a retail piece of crap as the family's first computer for the last 2, going on 3 years, I'd like to treat myself to a new rig. I'd also like to pop the cherry when it comes to building them and have a go at that as well.

The thing is though, I really know nothing at all about the whole hardware thing, being much more of a software techie than anything else lol. Although with a bit of help from my friends I managed to come up with a draft for possible components I'd buy and use.

What I would like is for you guys (Especially anyone in the UK) to go over this list and help me with the following:

A: Is there anything essential I'm missing, let me know but exclude monitors, speakers, keyboards, mouse or anything along those lines...

B: Are all the current hardware picked out the right choices, by this I need to know if everything I've picked out will be compatible with the mobo, case or anything else I'm not aware of.

And C: IS IT WORTHY?! :thumbup

I'm asking you lot these questions because I want to feel as reassured as I possibly can from people such as you lot as well as my own friends before I make any kinds of moves on this.

PS. The list I've attached is simply a first draft, but I'm sure I would like my first own built system to be along these lines, so if you guys find any errors or have any better suggestions, please feel free to edit the file and re-post it (Rename it too please if you do). This is for now, merely a guideline I'd like to work with and get advice on. I did make it in .xml format but this forum doesnt allow for the uploading of those so I've simply remade it as a html page for now.

Thanks alot for your time everybody, I hope to hear from you soon B)wip___lylos_new_beast.html

It is definitely gonna be a gaming rig, so far I think the choices I've made would work for that purpose very well.

As for money, thats the funny bit, the money will be coming out of my student loan for the upcoming year lol, at least £1k of that will have to go towards my uni fees for this year (September 05 - Whenever - 06), and another few hundred for transport needs. Now I actually have the potential to get over £3k for my loan, but its the way in which the system works that screws it all up a bit.

The loan will be payed into my bank in three (from what I've heard) seperate installments, and at three points in the year I will have to pay up towards my fees as well. Thats where it becomes a bit dodgy, chances are I could get over £1k in each installment (all being well), and a few hundred of that may only have to go at a time towards paying the fees, leaving a few hundred pounds to play with, I'm hoping.

Hmm... I suppose the only thing I could say for now is that I'm not sure how much I'd be willing to spend because I'm not entirely sure on how much I'm going to be receiving and when. What my original plan was, was to simply see how much I've got towards the end of this year and then think about putting it towards new computer parts to build with. Chances are alot of the stuff I've noted down will have gotten cheaper or I may be able to splash out for better/faster gear. It is early to be bringing all this up but I would like to be ready and assured in what I'm doing first

As for overclocking, well I know nothing about that, although one of my friends who helped me come up with that list insisted I try it out on both the CPU and the GPU at least once sometime so who knows heh.

Looking good, if you have money then up your ram to 2 gig and buy another 6800 to run in sli , apart from that it should be a nice rig

I would definitely consider the extra 6800, I do feel the offer I found there was quite a nice deal tbh. 256MB 6800 PCI-E at £130! Hell yes lol

Hey all, I've just updated the list today, I found a few of the things I'm after that were on OcUK cheaper on eBuyer so I've changed those as well as adding a keyboard and mouse, I'm thinking of going all the way with Saitek for those two bits B)

get a 3200, then get a dfi nf4 ultra-d or sli-dr(if u want sli)

dont get a 6800, get at least a gt, or maybe you should just wait till u can get more money. you said by the end of this year who should have a better idea of how much ur going to have? if so then just wait unless you really need it for like typing papers or something like that. if u could get 2k then that would help you out alot
