Gillman Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 Hi there,Please could someone help my pal with the following problem? He's using Windows XP Home, Build 2600 SP2 Operating system and after logging into his pc, all he gets is the windows desktop wallpaper and nothing else. He ran the task manager and noticed that explorer.exe wasn't running so then attempted to run explorer manually, but it still did not run. Safe mode works ok and he did an Adaware and Virus check followed by assistant restore, but explorer still fails to load. Since he's using SP2 it won't let him use SP1 disc to do the repair. He tried running 'sfc /scannow' but it didn't display any results in normal mode. Windows update is up-to-date. Can anyone recommend a repair solution to this problem, please?Could it be a registry or corrupted file issue?
trickytwista Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 could use check disk, it will run at next reboot
Wicket20519 Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 As a last resort, you could always do a repair install...
cheezus420 Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 (edited) If you cant do a repair with the sp1 disk, take the contents of the disk and slipstream sp2 onto it, and then burn a new disk and use that for the repair. Its worth a try. This link will show you how to do this:http://www.unattended.msfn.org/beginner/sl...ream.htm#manual Edited August 12, 2005 by cheezus420
