air101 Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 is there a byte array patch for 64bit windows 2003 as well ?
Acheron Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) Just an issue I have when modifying layout.inf is that it breaks Windows System File Protection from asking for a CD. Even with a patched setupapi.dll when you run sfc /scannow Windows will not show any warnings, but instead error 0x00000490 Element not found will be written to the event log. submix8c Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Inside is another link -http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&showtopic=26742&view=findpost&p=188809The assertion is do NOT patch SETUPAPI.DLL but properly modify LAYOUT.INF.HTHdisclaimer - AFAICR, I haven't done any of that.
Acheron Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) It is not a problem during setup and probably not a big deal after setup. Most people won't need SFC to be working anyway. But if you want system file protection enabled any modification to the layout.inf file will break it. At least on Windows XP SP3. Edited June 28, 2013 by Acheron
Zorba the Geek Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 Fifteen years later and I may need to patch setupapi.dll version 5.1.2600.5603, but the hex sequence 8BFF558BEC occurs in multiple locations. Possibly my successful patch for syssetup.dll may enable me to modify layout.inf.
