jbm Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 All instances of [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-299502267-1677128483-1060284298-500needs to be changed to [HKEY_CURRENT_USERThe SID which is S-1-5-21-299502267-1677128483-1060284298-500changes each time you install windows.
maxXPsoft Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=51753That is Taskbar BTWjbmMy experience over past couple years shows it may change and does occasionally but I have seen more where SID stayed the same. With some software writing reg entries to HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-xxxx-xxxx for their serial or activation brings up a challenge to add something will compensate for this, so thats what I've done is work up a working solution.
Alanoll Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 there are i believe 4 SIDs that will never change among systems. However, the User Specific SID of a User Created User should always change. If it didn't, then since the SID is one of the primary ways to generate the EFS key, it would be easy for anyone to generate that key and completely defeat the purpose of the encryption.Also...@duhuThanks for NOT using CODE tags, and thanks for NOT attaching such a large file. Did you possibly consider that it would just plain be nicer for people to NOT have to scroll down endless lines of text? Did you think that maybe using CODE tags would help to distinguish your code/registry tweaks from your actual message and bring focus to what you were actually trying to ask?

But try creating an account, then find its SID. Delete that account and recreat it. You'll find that theSID has changed.

It don't allways, I don't use VM and these are the things I've noticed. Those others are hereHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\hivelist but we know who they are by the list in Documents and Settings.
