This board is loaded with knowledgable people.

With the correct info, you'd possibly get the correct reply.

eg. make / model / motherboard manufacturer / bios manufacturer etc.

With this info ...

I'm locked out of my machine, and i need to change my bios settings to boot from a copy of erd commander to help me unlock it. Any tips?

reboot computer

when or before you hear beeb press delete

this should bring up bios

look for the boot order

Why do you think you must run ERD? This has a much higher learning curve than trying to figure out how to change the boot order. This boots into a mini windows. What do hope to accomplish from there?
