gamehead200
Bugs? Viruses? Do you have an anti-virus program? Did you ever do a system restore?
techguy21801
norton antivirus 2003, and i've done a one system restore if that's what you would call it. but it still did this before that, i very much doubt a virus,
MSNwar
Normally that means there are two or more programs trying to access explorer.exe at the same time and Win2000 shuts down explorer.exe when that happens. Or a viri has attached itself to explorer.exe But if you ran Norton and there was no viri then thats probally not the reason. I forgot the size of explorer.exe for Win2000 but if you right-click it and read the properties for the size you can then do a google search and do a compare. techguy21801
well i have determined that it only occurs when i have IE open. when i do not have it open it searches fine.....it's strange.
zipp51
Have you tried to repair IE?Go into add/remove programs and proceed as if you are uninstalling IE,it should then ask if you want to repair or uninstall.

techguy21801
i'm starting to think that it may be a problem when i upgraded, because even though i wanted to do a fresh install of win2k it was not an option at the time.
techguy21801
well i did a repair on it and i also put the service pack on IE and i was able to search so at least i could do that.
gamehead200
What version of IE do you have? 5, 5.5, or 6? If you have 5 or 5.5, upgrade to 6...If that doesn't solve your problem, reinstall Win 2000...Or wait until the next service pack...
