July 20, 200521 yr try and error is the best way to learn. It all depends on WHAT you want to encode.I prefer Nero Digital Mpeg4 it is great for encoding DVD movies and for TV capture. And it is easy to use as well.I don't like Divx and Xvid, they are to complicated.Afterdawn and Doom9 got some great guides.good luck Edited July 20, 200521 yr by Buccaneer
July 20, 200521 yr DivX sucks IMHO. XviD is a lot better. When I used to do AVI encodes of my DV footage, XviD gave me sharper image at lower bitrates than DivX. Anyway, www.videohelp.com has all the info you'd ever need.
