ssmokee Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 is Bios software or hardware? if software, how do i upgrade it and which bios is best?Current Bios:Phoenix-Award BIOS v6.00PG<{POST_SNAPBACK}>That should really only be done if you need the BIOS update to fix a bug, or gain some newly added functionality. The general rule of thumb is if it works, dont try and break it.

The BIOS is an EPROM on your motherboard. So it is a chip that has non volitile memory on it. It stores software that controls the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) for the computer. The other thing is, if you are using Phoenix BIOS, you don't have a choice, you must use the same BIOS. You cannot switch to Award or AMI.
BombaTwist Posted July 10, 2005 Author Posted July 10, 2005 oh i was just wondering about it because on Everest Home Edition, it recommended me to do it. heres an ss.
Lost Soul Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 its normally a good ideal if its recommended,, but id use extreme caution on flashing and updating your bios,, especially if youve never tried it before because 1 small mistake could cost you, your rig, time, and money,so just think it through, even tho upgrading a bios is kinda cut and dry stuff,, its very easy to make mistakes.
ssmokee Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 oh i was just wondering about it because on Everest Home Edition, it recommended me to do it.Well yeah, but if you look closer it also reads "if necessary".If you check out the description or release notes of the updated BIOS should tell you all you need to know. I looked at the updates available for your board (there are only 2 minor updates) and I would bet neither of those pertain to you.
