Zxian Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Umm... XP+nLite = Eiger...So does it come with a t-shirt? I'd get it if it does!
almulder Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 I thing you need to explane what Eiger is first before people vote. Like newbes.
wizardofwindows Posted June 30, 2005 Author Posted June 30, 2005 eiger is a new lean stripped down version of xp designed to run on older pcs with older hardware .
Aegis Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Why buy a stripped down version when you can take off Windows' clothes yourself?
Zxian Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Eiger will apparently cost less than a standard Windows XP install, since it doesn't offer all the features of XP.
Clint Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Have a look here:http://bink.nu/Article3812.binkFirst thing that catches my attention: Not supportedWindows image acquisition (WIA)Telephony, VPN & Dial-upWireless networking (802.11) well, there goes that OS for using in older laptops... "Mönch" on the other hand looks more mature, but why miss out on such a simple thing as dialup?500mb HD, does that mean that it will be driven without pagefile?
Taggs Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Long live 98! and Maggie Thatcher... CooorrRRRrrrrRRRrrrr
Jito463 Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 (edited) Well, if anyone had bothered to read Bink's article, this OS is only being marketed to nations with a weak economy. Those countries that can't afford to update to the latest and greatest tech but still have need for features from XP. And it's not just a slimmed-down XP, it's a hybrid XP Pro+XP Embedded.*EDIT*Sorry, that was a different article linked above. Read this one:http://bink.nu/Article4016.bink*EDIT2*Apparently, I should have re-read the article before I posted. It's being marketed to certain types of businesses too. It was some time back when I last ready it, heh.*proceeds to attempt extraction of foot from mouth* Edited July 1, 2005 by Jito463
