HELP!

I've install the SP on my computer.

I've checked the graphic interface and extra tweaks (requires 64MB).

I have 160 RAM. succesfull. please reboot.

system won't start up. shows "an application performed a fatal exception" etc.

same with safe-mode.

restored the last succesfull registry. now I get the older desktop color (win98, not 2K), but with the same error. tried not to process autoexec etc. no good.

command prompt won't let me access to the CD.

startup disk lets me access CD, but setup comes up with an error about requiring max. file size (do I need to edit the system.ini ?), which wasn't there before.

How the hell do I get my machine to work???!??

michal.

Could you write the exact error message?

Also, a list of your hardware may be helpful.

at another machine now.

I have an old HDD (caviar?) and a newer maxtor 80GB 8MB buffer.

the CD is a CDRW smart and friendly (old, but good).

it's an original IBM if it helps.

The rest..., well- I'll run a PCI dev when I'll get to it and post.

anything specific?

I just want to do an overlay.....

michal.

The Error is "a fatal exception 0E acurrred at 0167:BFF9E0B7....."

when starting up in safe mode it automatically reboots itself.

it's a compressed drive, does that have affect??

about the devices, should I list them all, or just the audio (which I understand is problematic)?

since there are a lot of views and no replies...

can any of you can tell me what are the minimum in the step-by-step startup to make windows go up?

when I told it not to process autoexec, registry and some others, I got the same error as I get in normal booting (only in safe mode).

btw- the pci devices list is long (using a dos pci detection program).

There are 2 marked in red- AGP enabled: No for some PCI bridge (which is weird), and I have the same with a cirrus logic device + no AGP speeds support marked in red.

any ideas what so ever? not that much of an expert in these things..... :}

Old Western Digital Caviar HD? how big is the hard drive? If it is really compressed, use DriveSpace to UNcompress it first. You might have to remove the SP before uncompressing the drive.

I dont understand this. do you mean CD drive or CDRW drive? what kind of CDRW drive do you have?

I'd rather suggest using Device Manager from the System control panel applet to view problematic devices in Windows.

  • 3 months later...

Just installed the SP2 and got the same error too ("a fatal exception 0E acurrred at 0167:BFF9E0B7").

I set the shell in system.ini to taskman instead of explorer and it started up. But while trying to run a new program from the file->run prompt of taskman i got the error again. I set the shell to command.com directly and the error apeered imidietly at startup.

I suspect that a dll respnsible on "msgbox" or "prompt" has changed by the SP2.

Any ideas?
