wellington1630 Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 HI, Can anyone help with this awful problem? I'm on the internet and all of a sudden I'm crashing. This happens a few times a day. It happens most when I am opening graphics on the web, but it can also just happen for no reason. I have a Sony Vaio. It's almost a year old. I have 11 GB of space with 1.8 left. It's really making me crazy. Any ideas out there?
FthrJACK Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 How much RAM have you got? When XP crashes does it just reboot? This sounds like a thread started earlier, lets find what the cause is first:Right-click on My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced tab -> press the Settings button under Startup and Recovery -> uncheck Automatically RestartNext time that this happens you'll see a BSOD instead of just rebooting. Write down the error code that the screen displays and come back to us with that information, it should be easy to solve once you have that error code.
wellington1630 Posted January 15, 2003 Author Posted January 15, 2003 what web browser are u using ?I am using explorer 6.0. Now I can't click on any hyperlinks when I'm browsing. Even in this forum. I think something is really wrong. I looked in my system information and there are some dll files that are inactive. Also something else called "kernell drivers" ....lots of them are gone or inactive or something. I read somewhere that when those dll guys leave you may as well call it a day!Under my start menu.....my search button won't respond. What the heck is happening!!!!

I always get that mixed up. I get an error saying IE is having a problem and have to reopen the browser. Maybe it's a browser problem. I seem to run Netscape ok.
XPerties Posted January 15, 2003 Posted January 15, 2003 have you updated IE from windows update page? Are you running any ad-blockers software?

I'll wait for the impending crash and do as you suggested.
XPerties Posted January 16, 2003 Posted January 16, 2003 uninstall the pop up blocker and see if that helps. I had trouble with certain versions and caused IE problems
gamehead200 Posted January 16, 2003 Posted January 16, 2003 Do you still have your XP CD? If you do, backup all your info and reinstall Windows...That should solve your problems... Almost every machine in my house has XP on it cause Win98 really screwed up my network...
