fireball1974 Posted May 29, 2005 Posted May 29, 2005 Hi all,Sorry it's always the same with us newbies first post is always a problem!! I have an Advent T9201, 3.4ghz, 512 ram, running WinXP SP2 and tried (like the bl**dy fool that I am) to update my ATI Radeon 9550 drivers (counterstrike source kept telling me to!!!!). I'm now running with the default monitor and cannot cannot get any ATI drivers to load.I've tried the following (in multiple combinations):* uninstalling all previous ATI drivers* rebooting in VGA mode (which comes up as VGASafe)* rebooting in Safe mode (which looks really funny on a 19" monitor @ 640 x 480)* deleting any ati*.* file from windows\system32 (but they magically reappear the instance they are deleted)* installing Omega Radeon drivers (from VGA mode)* installing the 'official' ATI drivers* Enabling / Disabling / Uninstalling the display drivers from the hardware managerThe setup software for either the ATI official or the Omega driver loads all the way through then I get an access is denied message at the end.... even from VGASafe mode. Please help...
Bâshrat the Sneaky Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 What versions of the ATI Catalysts or Omega's did you try?
fireball1974 Posted May 30, 2005 Author Posted May 30, 2005 Hi and many thanks for the quick reply to the post!...Omega Radeon Drivers v2.6.25a 05/09/05 (Catalyst 5.4)ATI CATALYST 5.5 Windows XP (Display Driver 05/17/05 Version: 6.14.10.6546)(Control Panel 05/17/05 Version: 6.14.10.5154)
Bâshrat the Sneaky Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 Did you have the same problem with older drivers?
fireball1974 Posted May 30, 2005 Author Posted May 30, 2005 The old drivers worked fine but came pre-loaded on the computer. I do not have the old driver files but could use the rather ropey system recovery disk that came with the machine (althought that would be a really painful way to do it!)Not sure how to proceed - just been in the process of uninstalling it all again, reloading the driver files from vga mode / then safe mode trying both the ATI and Omega drivers...Would it help if I took a dump on the keyboard and threw the monitor round the room a little? Seriously tho, any help would be very much appreciated...
Bâshrat the Sneaky Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 Could you please post your HWID? That should lead us to a solution.
fireball1974 Posted May 30, 2005 Author Posted May 30, 2005 God I'm an amateur... Had a look through the registry and this looked like the most likely fella...02 00 00 00 02 23 8d 0f 5b 42 97 0d ec af f7 46 04 0c d6 7bMeanwhile I'm going to sit here, pick my toes and wonder why I didn't pay more attention at schoolThanks for helping
Bâshrat the Sneaky Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 A HWID is something like this: 'PCI\VEN_12AB&DEV_3C4D&SUBSYS_XYZ9'You can find it using Everest Home Edition for example. Use the search function o/t board to find out more about it.
fireball1974 Posted May 30, 2005 Author Posted May 30, 2005 PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4153&SUBSYS_20841002&REV_00 Phew! thanks for the tip on downloading Everest... v.cool tool !
Bâshrat the Sneaky Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 Eh they are indeed NOT LISTED in the .inf file! What brand is that? :s I'll add a hack to support your GPU, but please tell me what brand it is!

Bâshrat the Sneaky Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 Eh I'm going to ask you something probably odd to you...But could you please open your case and check what brand that graphics card is? Thanks in advance
fireball1974 Posted May 31, 2005 Author Posted May 31, 2005 ok, case opened and a lovely ATI card smiling at me The only discernable features other than the big white ATI are as follows:F-470008-03705-11AR96-LD3S/N: F0408016659Does this help?
Bâshrat the Sneaky Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Not exactly I'll label it as 'UNKNOWN' then :)
htc Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 The original ati driver pack "Catalyst v5.3" and the new "Catalyst v5.5" contain following hardware id:"RADEON 9550" = ati2mtag_RV350, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4153"RADEON 9550 Secondary" = ati2mtag_RV350, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4173so it should be no problem for the driver pack to install/identify your graphic card...I wonder...
