  1. LiquidSage - FANTASTIC... a master you are indeed, many thanks it worked perfectly htc - I'm not going to rise to your taunt I'm fully aware of the difference between a fresh install and a recovery image, I was simply looking for an alternative solution. Please don't burden yourself with another response to this post, your obviously far too busy, important or it just may be possible that your head has finally lodged itself so far up your own arse your eyes can no longer see the keyboard. Out of courtesy to newbies who may not be as familiar with these steps and processes I can only recommend you do not post suggestions to us inferior, plankton, pond like scum. (oh dear, I did rise... never mind!) Many thanks again to LiquidSage and Bashrat for being true embassadors for this forum.
  2. hi htc, thanks for posting - it's not hard for me to do a fresh install, but that really is no different to me shoving in my sys recovery disk that came with the machine. I was really hoping that there would be another way, yes all my stuffs backed up, yes I have 80% of the software to reload back on but man it's a really bum way of getting the display drivers working... I realise this may have been the wrong place to post the message and I really do appreciate you all helping me out but I'm determined to figure out another way to do this (do we really have to resort to wiping systems bare?!?)...
  3. Driverpacks identified the card.... YIPEE! Driverpacks did not install the card... BOOOOO! Same problem as before, access is denied. Am considering replacing the chair in my home office with a spike and intermitently beating my legs and chest with the large branch of a birch tree. Have decided it would be a less painful and faster death than trying to re-install these drivers !!!!!! Not sure if there is anything else you can suggest? but still hopefull! Thx again for all your help and time so far...
  4. ok, case opened and a lovely ATI card smiling at me The only discernable features other than the big white ATI are as follows: F-470008-03705-11A R96-LD3 S/N: F0408016659 Does this help?

  7. God I'm an amateur... Had a look through the registry and this looked like the most likely fella... 02 00 00 00 02 23 8d 0f 5b 42 97 0d ec af f7 46 04 0c d6 7b Meanwhile I'm going to sit here, pick my toes and wonder why I didn't pay more attention at school Thanks for helping
  8. The old drivers worked fine but came pre-loaded on the computer. I do not have the old driver files but could use the rather ropey system recovery disk that came with the machine (althought that would be a really painful way to do it!) Not sure how to proceed - just been in the process of uninstalling it all again, reloading the driver files from vga mode / then safe mode trying both the ATI and Omega drivers... Would it help if I took a dump on the keyboard and threw the monitor round the room a little? Seriously tho, any help would be very much appreciated...
  9. Hi and many thanks for the quick reply to the post!... Omega Radeon Drivers v2.6.25a 05/09/05 (Catalyst 5.4) ATI CATALYST 5.5 Windows XP (Display Driver 05/17/05 Version: 6.14.10.6546) (Control Panel 05/17/05 Version: 6.14.10.5154)
  10. Hi all, Sorry it's always the same with us newbies first post is always a problem!! I have an Advent T9201, 3.4ghz, 512 ram, running WinXP SP2 and tried (like the bl**dy fool that I am) to update my ATI Radeon 9550 drivers (counterstrike source kept telling me to!!!!). I'm now running with the default monitor and cannot cannot get any ATI drivers to load. I've tried the following (in multiple combinations): * uninstalling all previous ATI drivers * rebooting in VGA mode (which comes up as VGASafe) * rebooting in Safe mode (which looks really funny on a 19" monitor @ 640 x 480) * deleting any ati*.* file from windows\system32 (but they magically reappear the instance they are deleted) * installing Omega Radeon drivers (from VGA mode) * installing the 'official' ATI drivers * Enabling / Disabling / Uninstalling the display drivers from the hardware manager The setup software for either the ATI official or the Omega driver loads all the way through then I get an access is denied message at the end.... even from VGASafe mode. Please help...
