Piaqt...if this works I will kiss your butt! I get about 10-15 calls per day from telemarketers. I have been very close to buying that telezapper but couldn't bring myself to spend $40 on it. Somebody try this out and tell me if it really works!

we dont get it nearly so bad as you guys in the usa.

if i where getting 15 cold calls a day id end up going postal on some telemarketing company!

usually if they ring i say something really nasty OR... my fave trick:

talk as if you are interested in what they have and TAP the reciever button (this only works on a phone you pick the reciever up and the rocker switch turns the phone on, not on a cordless)

you only have to tap it once very quickly and about 5 seconds after it cuts you off. All the while keep talking like your interested in buying whatever crap they are selling.

wait a second and they will ring you right back.. often so fast they forget to dial in the caller id blocking number (in the UK this is 141 preceeding any other digits in the phone number to be dialed)

ok, now you have that suckers number, hang up. now wait a few minutes so they call other people and then call back. (harder for them to figure out who you are)

you now have control of that phone line, as YOU are paying for the call, if they hang up.. just wait, when they pick the phone up your still there! hehe

i usually put the phone next to the pc and play some porn or something out loud and walk off. its funny listening in to them freaking out, after a bit they get mad and they cant do any work = not getting paid (they get commision dont forget!)

ive had the whole office disrupted by doing this before, all wanting to listen in on whats going on down the phone line! heh, its hilarious, and disrupts the offices work = less calls to other people.

seriously! hit the hands free button and walk away. but it is fun to listen in after a bit when they get stressed out

That may work with a few of the locals who don't use one of those auto-dialers but with the autodialer...there is no manual work involved...

My favorite is when I pick up and there is a recording that says please hold for an important message. They call me, and then put me on hold to sell me something!!!

Rick: Try it yourself. New York State has a "Do not Call" law. if you add your phone and mail to the database, ANY telemarketer who phones you is in violation thereof and subject to prosecution. Also, the phrase "I do not accept telemarketing calls. do not call here again." constitutes a legal ban on being phoned by that particular telemarketer again.
