Install Software on Bart PE

Featured Replies

Hi,

is it possible to install software on Bart PE after i start Bart PE and boot the system.

I have tried it more times but i get every time the message.

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.

This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode,

or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.

So is this a cut of Bart PE or is the Installer wrong i have copied all files from the installer to Bart PE and create the Regestry entries.

Can help me someone

darph

No you cant. Bart PE is on cd so even if you could you would have to install it every time. You need to create a plug in prior to building bart pe cd.

For more info see this siteBart PE forum

Windows Installer runtime is not included in PE environmnent - but you can repackage installation/copy files manually...

  • 2 weeks later...

what program is it?

BartPe/WinPE use the registry on the CD which makes it read only. There are plugins which will allow you to use a lot of the registry as writeable... but I think Windows Installer Service uses a part of the registry which is not writeable.

There are a lot of things you can do in a PE disk... but there are limitations.

I do not know whether this will work for Bart PE but I was able to get the Windows Installer service working on Windows PE. Copy the MSIExec.Exe from a valid XP/2003 Source to the System32 directory. Then run

MSIExec /RegServer

Net Start MSIServer

Then the Windows Installer Service will be running.
