what exactly is the difference between something like 2-2-2-5, 2-2-2-8, 2-3-2-5, and 2-3-3-6

i am going to get something thats cas 2 but what are all the other numbers for?

The other numbers are also latencies, so you have CAS-RAS-C2R for example with SDR RAM and CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS for DDR(2).

For Intel systems, yes.

For AMD systems, it's been shown experimentally that a value of 7-9 actually produces optimum results.
