jcman14 Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 I am getting an Illegal system dll relocation error every time i try to run calc or morpheus. I read somewhere that it is because shell32.dll is over 10mb. The new graphics are cool, so i dont want to uninstall Xpize, but i also want to use calc and morpheus. Will just deleting some unused resources from shell32.dll help me?
XPero Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 Will just deleting some unused resources from shell32.dll help me?Try that and tell me. Also, I know that this happens to users with Asian Text Characters (which includes Chinese Simplified users). Are you using this kind of system? if not, do you have this languages installed?
jcman14 Posted April 18, 2005 Author Posted April 18, 2005 Deleting some of the 48x48 icons in shell32.dll fixed the problem.
andregcasal Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Hi there, as it turns out, i've found lots of people in the internet with this problem unsolved... Could you be more specific in wich icons could/should be deleted?Which program did you used for deleting them? What size should the shell32.dll be so the error goes away?Xpize, great work by the way, (when) will you release a fix for this?
-I- Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 (edited) if you want to know this, get the original file from a hotfix or something and look at it... in reshacker / or resedit in your version there should be 3 versions of all resources > one for XP Home> one for XP Pro> and one for Wistler Server what i usualy do is replaceing all resources for xp server with a tiny 8color bitmap resource (that has no real content) that will at least save you the first Meg or so... Q: @Xpero (cant you make that so for all files that get patched) - even though it might take some extra time to patch it will help save some filesizes.... btw - what do you guys think about my mini XPized logo... 96x25 px - 2,77KB - ext. JPGits entirely created in paint.NET and took me about 10 mins to get it right... Edited June 22, 2006 by -I-
XPero Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 @-I-:I cant delete or replace resources since XPize is intended to work with several versions of XP and Win2003. The implementation of this would be a complete mess and new bugs will appear. I think it is better that users with the problem at hand delete the resources on their own as you did.
-I- Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 i didn't say deleting (as that can get unexpected bugs). but replacing them with a far less using resource (could) do the trick for xp users. but your right about 2k3, so thats not an option. so idead people should just do it themselves (if problems happen)
