gui_m Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 Hello! I have a Wireless G Linksys Router. One computer is connected through cable and works great. The other two PCs are connected through wireless connections. These work great when accessing PCs shares and is very fast copying files, but the internet is VERY slow. This isn't the case for the main PC that is connected through cable... wireless connection is also constantly falling. What should I do? The issue isn't range because signal is excellent!!
rjz Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Double check your security options. Try the latest formware to.
trickytwista Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 what model is it? linksys is very good 4 support and yes try firmware update
gui_m Posted April 4, 2005 Author Posted April 4, 2005 I already have the latest firmware & do u mean security options under the router? WEP is disabled... the router is a WRT5G.
TomcaT Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 WEP is disabled... <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Check the DHCP client list to make sure noone else is using your internet connection.Enable WPA if your other wireless computers support it else WEP is better than nothing, also enable MAC address filtering, it at least gives you some security.
gui_m Posted April 4, 2005 Author Posted April 4, 2005 nope, no one else in DHCP user list... enabled WEP and Wireless MAC filter but still having the same problem :S
rjz Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Check the computer settings for firewall and proxy stuff.
gui_m Posted April 5, 2005 Author Posted April 5, 2005 nope, no firewall either :scould it be because of DMZ?
brian873 Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 maybe a virus or a build of of cache in IE, does it do thiis from a fresh install or a boot cd ?hail hail
gui_m Posted April 5, 2005 Author Posted April 5, 2005 Nope, they use firefox and the installation is pretty recent
rjz Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 What happens when you use ie? Firefox might have some tweaks for you. When you talk about slow. Do you think it's slow to launch each site or slow to load all page? Have you done a ping or trace route?
gamehead200 Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Empty the cache in whatever program you use to surf the web... What happens if you are within a few feet of the wireless access point? Also, have you seen my easy-to-follow guide on setting up a wireless access point + wireless cards? http://www.astromike.com/wireless.html
eDad Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 I'm having similar problems.... with Linksys hardware. The wireless laptop to desktop (speeds are normal (transfer 50MB in a minute or so), but the Internet speeds are WORSE THAN DIALUP.I have the laptop (Linksys WPC54G) within 2 feet of the router (Linksys WRT54G) all with the latest software/firmware.Wired Internet speed = 4035 kilobits per secondWireless Internet speed = 50 kilobits per secondI've ruled out spyware and viruses; cleared the cache; enabled/disabled WEP.I'm at a loss...
