But haven't tried it yet.........

Have tried Diskkeeper v60 and that program recently just ruined my IBM DeskStar76Gb disk. Daily + automaticaly defraging it just couldn't handle.

Am now trying out the O&O defrager tool, but the one thing that stops me from realy geting to use it is that it is German sw. Experiences of late with several German sw packages(Roxio, Nero etc.), has thought me that these creators do not take the Windows standards + computing standards all that seriously !!!.

Check out the comparison pages:

The ME version does work fine....thanks for the tip !!!

"Defragment swiftly and safely. Vopt Millennium edition keeps your system running at its best." Even the configuration option "to move large files to the bottom of the disk" works fine. And is indeed speedy gonzales!!!.

Latest news from Vopt Customer Support:

"Please wait for VoptXP, coming next month."

VoptMe is what I used under FAT32 in WinMe and it was by far the fastest that I could find. Haven't tried it under XP. Diskeeper was okay but I had to run it several times in order to get my HD completely defraged. Are you saying that you tried VoptMe under XP with NTFS?

I am using O & O Defrag 2000 Pro on XP with NTFS file system. It works fine. I used to love using Vopt for Win 98 and tried VoptNT on XP. Vopt NT did not function as expected. The new XP version will work as it is supposed to, I guess. I am sticking with O&O Defrag as it is fast and reliable. The freeware version was just fine too....

Thanks Mod for fixing the links (replacing "t" for "*").

I did not think that I had put these cute Japanese substitute characters in the links there myselve. And have taken notice.:)

VOptXP should be due out this week !!!

Time to test prog vs O&O. Note that NTFS has also changed, 1st from 3.51(NT) --> 4.0(NT), then --> 5.0(W2k) and now --> 5.1(XP)!!

Thus using a W2k defragger on a changed filesystem.......ok, obviously it has worked out right for you. Thanks jrichard326.:nerves

BTW: Intel has put out a new version of its Intel Application Accelerator, which assists in the Defrag process and auto gives you the next drive

What about JETDefrag from Fix-it. Have not use it, but defrags at next boot. [/quote:de45ab8f0d]

Wouldn't touch it with a 9ft barge pole mate! I'll be sticking with Diskeeper 7 since its certified to work with Windows XP. It can do boot time defrags, MFT defrags, page file defrag, and scheduled defrags.

The release of the Diskeeper that comes with XP does NOT have the "SetIt and ForgetIT" feature. Under Windows 2000 this could not be done, refer to technet article Q227463.

Is there a way to automate this feature under XP?

Thanks

The built-in defrag program in XP is a cut-down version of Diskeeper with the good features taken out.

Install Diskeeper 7 for all the features.
