  1. Thanks Mod for fixing the links (replacing "t" for "*"). I did not think that I had put these cute Japanese substitute characters in the links there myselve. And have taken notice. ----------------- VOptXP should be due out this week !!! Time to test prog vs O&O. Note that NTFS has also changed, 1st from 3.51(NT) --> 4.0(NT), then --> 5.0(W2k) and now --> 5.1(XP)!! Thus using a W2k defragger on a changed filesystem.......ok, obviously it has worked out right for you. Thanks jrichard326.:nerves ----------------- BTW: Intel has put out a new version of its Intel Application Accelerator, which assists in the Defrag process and auto gives you the next drive ht*p://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaa/:cool: The place for Intel's new XP drivers (for Intel Chipsets+Intel boards) ht*p://developer.intel.com/design/motherbd/xp/driver.htm:D
  2. straight windows solution: -Do not install older XP versions. -Instead install Corp edition (WXPCORP_EN).
  3. Have just tried VoptME and that works fine. VoptXP is due out after Oct, 20. Untill then, closest you get is VoptNT, but that's for NTFS 4.x, not for Win2k or XP.
  4. The ME version does work fine....thanks for the tip !!! "Defragment swiftly and safely. Vopt Millennium edition keeps your system running at its best." Even the configuration option "to move large files to the bottom of the disk" works fine. And is indeed speedy gonzales!!!. Latest news from Vopt Customer Support: "Please wait for VoptXP, coming next month."

Safely defragments your computer in minimal time, cleans up both FAT16 and FAT32 drives, builds a new copy of your valuable data before it unlinks the original. Even in a system crash your data is protected. VoptNT v3.0 - Defragmentation software for Windows NT 4.0 Server+WKS. This program defragments files on NT servers/workstations. Used at techadvice.com since the beginning of '98 with no problems. Hard to beat the price! Just click on the More Info Link to order this product. Vopt95 - Defragmentation software for DOS and Windows 3.x. email: hi@goldenbow.com - Updated 06/20/2001. ---------------------------------------------- But haven't tried it yet......... Have tried Diskkeeper v60 and that program recently just ruined my IBM DeskStar76Gb disk. Daily + automaticaly defraging it just couldn't handle. Am now trying out the O&O defrager tool, but the one thing that stops me from realy geting to use it is that it is German sw. Experiences of late with several German sw packages(Roxio, Nero etc.), has thought me that these creators do not take the Windows standards + computing standards all that seriously !!!. Check out the comparison pages: -Comparison Chart: O&O Defrag vs. Diskeeper ht*p://www.oosoft.de/english/products/oodfamily/cp-dk.html -O&O Defrag 2000 is Editor's Choice in comparison of defrag tools ht*p://www.oosoft.de/english/reviews/ood2000pro/infoweek_072001.html[ O & O Home: ht*p://www.oosoft.de/english/products/ood2000net/ood2000net.html ht*p://www.ou.edu/tucows/win2k/preview/002-007-005-002C.html ht*p://www.pnltools.com/ For security reason please dont post direct links to other websites, always replace a t with a *.....You gave me a work out on this post...Moderator[/color:f6feab2692]
  6. The REG-trick MenuShowDelay will only speed up in the Menu's unfolding faster. Elsewhere suggestions are made to stop (on a StartUp) the Running of all kind of the (useless) NT Services of which many always Run(semi-) automatically on a (re-) boot. Another suggestion made was to always logon as Administrator, since that with any Users again all kinds of Services will start. -So why does the StartMenu always shows such a 1-minute delay in its "on screen present"-performance, whilst the Desktop+Taskbar are already "minutes" visable on screen? (happend also in the 2505 build). -And now how to prefend this default StartMenuShowsBootDelay behaviour? (And now without the workaround of having 3td party sw to deal with it). -Anyone does know of straight Windows solutions?
