Mr. Spock Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 I just finneshd installing windows 98Se on a Packerd Hell, now when ever i have to restart it it keeps on hanging in the Windows is now busy to shutdown screen. I already installed the shutdown patch, but that didn't helpAny one know the solutionThx infront
max75 Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 I am afraid this is the dreaded shutdown problem. The shutdown fixes only work in 75% of the cases. There is a runddl-command which shut down your pc but I don't know the exact command.
KenOath Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 I don't know if you fellows know but there are 2 patches made by MSfor the shutdown problem, I never have a problem with the shutdown ifI use both of them.1st = 4756US8.exe2nd = 239887up.exeI have both if either are needed but i'm sure they'll turn up googling forthem.
mamas6667 Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 This is the runddl-command C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE User,ExitWindows
KenOath Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 This is the runddl-command C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE User,ExitWindows<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I have shortcuts in my quicklaunch that uses that command.right clicked desktop & created new shortcut.for shutdown it was { Rundll.exe User.exe, exitwindows } called it shutdownfor restart it was { Rundll.exe User.exe.exitwindowsexec } called it restartwithout the brackets either sideThen place them in the quicklaunch folder for one click shutdown or restart.
mamas6667 Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 You can use the following command in a shortcut to restart Windows 98/Me automatically:• rundll32.exe shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx nwhere n is one, or a combination of, the following numbers:• 0 - LOGOFF• 1 - SHUTDOWN• 2 - REBOOT• 4 - FORCE• 8 - POWEROFFThe above options can be combined into one value to achieve different results. For example, to restart Windows forcefully, without querying any running programs, use the following command line:rundll32.exe shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx 6NOTE: Using the FORCE option can cause programs to lose data.--------------------------Acording to M$Keywords: kbinfo KB234216-----------------------C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE User,ExitWindowsexec -> does a quick restart not a reboot :-(C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE User,ExitWindows -> does a shutdown.C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx 2 -> does a porper reboot
