Shrinking Directx 9.0c Redist Feb_2005

Hiya,

Trying to cut some dead weight from my Win98 UA cd, and I came upon some stuff in directx_9c_redist.exe that was unnecessary:

BDANT.cab>>NT4

BDAXP.cab>>XP

dxnt.cab>>NT4

ManagedDX.CAB>>managedDX

Removing these files saved me ~18MB!!!

I've got the DirectX 9.0c February 2005 update, and it also contains:

dxupdate.cab

Feb2005_d3dx9_24_x64.cab

Feb2005_d3dx9_24_x86.cab

Feb2005_MDX_x86.MSI

I don't use "managed DX," which of these files can I remove?

These four files are ~4MB.

Thanks!

you could probably remove Feb2005_d3dx9_24_x64.cab but it may prevent the installer from working, I believe this file is for upcoming 64bit windows operating systems??

correct me if im wrong.

If u plan on installing DX 9.0c only on Win98/98SE/ME, u only need these 5 files:

BDA.CAB

DIRECTX.CAB

DSETUP.DLL

DSETUP32.DLL

DXSETUP.EXE

and they don't need to be from the February, March or April 2005 DX release, they can also be from original DX 9.0c release [these 5 are identical]:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...en&Hash=VB346XB

Removing all others will not impair DX installation on 9x/ME.

does this apply to the last working version for Win98SE

Good question.

With DirectX 9.0c coming to an end of development... what is the minimum yet up-to-date DirectX Package we can make?

I took the 5 files MDGx mentioned above the directx kb904706 update

and the DXCPL.EXE and put them all in one folder and the folder

size is only about 19mb now if someone choose to make a lite version

of DirectX 9c i'm sure it would get smaller because of the compression.

I hope a Guru is watching.
