1. I think I remember seeing this on the microsoft support website, I cant find the post now but from what I can remember win9X ie 95,98 and ME cant see anything other than the latest session on a multisession dvd (could be the first session) due to the difference between the multisession mode used on DVDs being a bit different to that on CDs. As far as im aware there isnt a workaround. I may be wrong as I am only working from my rather fallible memory.
2. you could probably remove Feb2005_d3dx9_24_x64.cab but it may prevent the installer from working, I believe this file is for upcoming 64bit windows operating systems?? correct me if im wrong.
3.
hi, does anyone here know about slipstreaming win98se updates? Is it possible?
I think the best way to do this (the updates are not removable by the user) is simply to extract the updates into the win98 directory and the windows setup picks up all the updated files from there instead of using the cabs. I havnt tested this but the method seems to work well in windows 95.
4. @cyberthug Windows 98 drivers are easy to slipstream as the windows install cd comes with a program called Infinst.exe which does just that, simply extract your drivers from the compressed exe files (if they are compressed) then tell the program where they are one driver at a time. The program will copy all the driver files which are relevant to the Windows install folder on the hard drive and update the relevant ini files etc. @everybody What I want is a program to replace original files inside the cabinet files, winrar and winzip can read the files but not write them for some reason. anyone any Ideas on how this can be done?
5. thanks that gives me a great start, there are loads of options in there to add lines to msdos.sys and copy inf files so I will play around now that I have a starting point. Cheers
6. Hi Guys, Firstly let me explain, I recently created a multi-boot DVD, it contains 98se, ME, XP and SLAX Live CD. I did this using a guide I found here on MSFN, whilst doing this I realised I could slipstream the XP service pack and the updates the the DVD and also the drivers into 98se and autorun the nice unoficial 98se service pack to windows 98. However, I have an old dusty copy of windows 95c and I hate to see things go to waste (I also have my windows 3.11 disks which I am thinking about putting in the DVD). I cant install the cd with any new PC so I want to patch the install cd with the AMD fix, I am sure I read how to do this ages ago but cant find the instructions anywhere. Does anyone know how to do this? Also I would like to add my new drivers, the infinst prog wont allow me to add any 32bit drivers and I cant use the win98 one on anything other than win98 (doing this for Millenium would be nice too). Anyone who knows how to do this please tell me? Lastly I would love to add DirectX and IE5.5 (i think thats the last available IE for 95?) and possibly the hotfixes so that I have a final be all and end all never updated again win95 installer. Anyone who can help me with this? PS. I know 95 is dead, I do not intend to seriously use it but would love to preserve it for posterity.
