hi there

i dunno if this is bc of my sucky isp but i remember it was same with verizon, well verizon sucked as well anyways so i'm wondering why my download speed decreases when i'm uploading at full capacity 4~6kb/s :P (oooo so fast)

yea so that bothers me bc my max dl speed is 32kb/s and when i upload my dl speed goes down to <16.

i dunno if any of u know this about the phone lines but there are 4 smaller cables in the phone lines, the guy that came to my house (he was younger than me) used a cable which has only 2 smaller cables in it, though i told him to use 4,

well the replied with 4lines is only neccessary when u puchase 1024kbit internet, so i told him what happens if i buy 2048, he said it doesn't exist, so that's not the answer :P

another friend of mine told me that 4 cables is for sepeate lines, so if u want to use 1 phone with 2 lines that's neccessary, that wasn't enough to convince me either

so well yea i've asked 2 questions,

1. why my dl slows down when i upload

2. what is the significance of the 2/4 smaller cables??

thanks.

Standard Quad Telephone Line has 4 wires...usually Red (Ring) Green (Tip) Yellow (Spare/Phone Lights) Black (Spare/Phonelights)....in laymans terms..the Red/Green are necessary..they act like a Postive and Negative...the Other two are either for a Trimline Phone..that uses a transformer for lights....or used as additional wires for 2nd Line....as for you download speeds....your usually cap at a certain bandwidth...so if your uploading while downloading...your using your max bandwidth...so one will either be less..depending...I have 1mb Upload..with 3mb Download...if im uploading..i usually dont see any changes will surfing the net while also Downloading...but the download speed will slow down a few K...as the balance of your Max Bandwidth...equals out.

google your download speed problem because you aren't the first to ask such a question. It basically comes down to stuff to do with the TCP/IP protocol (can't remember exactly what though)
