i like to run a dos app on winxp but there is an error

insufficient files provided by dos???

how to make files=80 and buffers=40

pl's reply if have already workd/tried on it.

you should put those lines in AUTOEXEC.BAT / AUTOEXEC.DOS and CONFIG.SYS / CONFIG.DOS so every time you start a DOS program it´s going to use those setting... but that´s in 98. LOL. XP has them too, but they are hidden system files.

Okay, if you make a shortkut to that program you can change the properties of that shortcut. o to "options" and set your BUFFERS and NUMBER OF BUFFERS. I don´t know where to find the FILES settings, but try to set BUFFERS first. (Could be something with NUMBER OF BUFFERS.)

what i mean when i use to click on msdos prompt from windows xp and use mem.exe to display status of files and buffers it should display what i have enterd like in config.sys we use to enter files=80 and buffers=20 etc.

Edit \windows\system32\config.NT and add everything you need!!!!

i have checked the config.nt it has already

files = 40

but when i checked with mem/d |more it shows files=

so that it's not working any thing else i have to try.

Create a shortcut to your EXE. Right click on the shortcut and do "Properties" Select the Compatability Tab. Easy enough? Select the options you want.

that´s what I told chankya too, only the question is: How to set FILES= in the shortcut, buffers are shown...

Can u help me how to get files=xx in windows xp's dosprompt with/without compatibility option in properties. where xx =1 to 9 so that i can run a dos/win9x program which require files=xx.
