File recovery

 Hey everybody

I've got a major problem. Last week i reinstalled my pc . At that time i accidently deleted my partition of my extern HDD.

If that wasn't enough i did also a quick format because when i wanted to recover the file's i recieved a message to format the disk.

Now the problem is that i can't recover my file's in the original state.

Can somebody help me to recover the file's .

Thanks and i wish everyone a merry christmas and a happy new year

Greetz

It can be easy either easy or VERY difficult.

You can try with this freeware first:

http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm

How was it formatted?

FAT16 (I do not think so)

FAT32 (I hope for you)

NTFS (Unfortunately probable)

Another to try:

http://www.handyrecovery.com/download.shtml

Difficult to use, but good:

http://www.theabsolute.net/sware/dskinv.html

The BEST for NTFS is File Scavenger (COMMERCIAL):

http://www.quetek.com/prod02.htm

I used getdataback from http://www.runtime.org when I accidentally deleted my partition on my external

Hint: don't leave your usb cable connected when you plan to delete a partion using xp setup, because it will load usb drivers and that drive will be accessible and can be deleted

but for ntfs, the getdataback did work, but plan on spending some money

  • 1 year later...

I lost my data (not really mine, but of my network admin). I got it recovered successfully yesterday.

I used three softwares

1. PC Inspector File Recovery

2. Drive Rescue

3. Handy Recovery

I got links for it from Hiren's Page http://www.hiren.info/harddisk/data-recovery6.html, it very well explains the basics of data recovery and some links to other good freeware softwares. But really for me these 3 softwares did a grt job. Specially Handy Recovery.
