durex Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 No offense to Simon and his lovely unattended walkthroughs... but that program looks to be a heck of a lot easier method to use
totoymola Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 theres a tool for this purpose.have a lookhttp://firefox.dbltree.com/Old news! http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...ndpost&p=218754But you are correct. This is a good tool.
totoymola Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 No offense to Simon and his lovely unattended walkthroughs... but that program looks to be a heck of a lot easier method to useYeah. This is way much easier, but it is just an SFX, so you don't have a clean uninstaller. But still, this is a great tool.
1chaoticadult Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 @totoymolaTake it for what it means. I personally don't like this method. Without an uninstaller, this method is useless to me. Most people want a way to uninstall an app they installed. That's why I made an inno setup from zip version of firefox and it works fine for me.
totoymola Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 @drthawhizkidI was just asking. Although this is a good tool, I'm not telling (or forcing) people to use this. I'm just saying that it is an alternative. Like you, I don't like this method also because for one, it is an sfx that doesn't actually install the app. Secondly, it has no uninstaller. And third, I prefer building an msi.
CoffeeFiend Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 @durex: It's only complex to use as it's made to work on all kinds of different translations windows and such. Making your own silent installer is in fact very simple otherwise. (replace a file, edit a couple lines in a ini, and that's about it).As for using this method, it's doing mostly the same thing to a empty user profile as the scripts in simonsays' guide do (not that much differences in both ways/scripts used)@drthawhizkid: if the only thing that bothers you is an uninstaller, it's very easy to import the uninstall infos in the registry and recopying the uninstaller over (I used to do that with 0.9.3 and it worked flawlessly) Not that I use that method either though.Personally, I prefer to use the real installer (made silent) over repackaged/captured installers (msi and others). Simonsays has a great one with all useful plugins (not to be confused with extensions). You can also customize it.
