Lost Soul Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 hi heres a question id like to know the answer to and i hope it hasnt been asked before and if so im sorry but here it goes any ways how can i make a .rar file and set it in a batch / cmd file so that it will be told to extract to a certain folder..for example lets say favorites.. if you zip up all your favs in a .rar format , how can you set it up so it will extract to the favorite folder. ?should i be using winrar to accomplish this, or is there another program that will do the task at hand better.btw i know the favorite ideal has been talked about many many times now but im just using that as an examplethanks

Astalavista Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Here are two example...of SFX w/ installation (Nero Reloaded 6.6.1 and PowerDVD6)
Bilou_Gateux Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 @AstalavistaIf we uncheck the option "Unpack to temporary folder", would the archive file be unpacked in the folder from which we launch the exe.Or we have to set "Path to extract" = "Create in the current folder"Or both options ?ieWinRAR silent SFX PREMSJVM.exe is copied to C:\$WINNT$.~LS\I386\SVCPACK along with MSJAVWU.exePREMSJVM.exe contains only one batch PREMSJVM.CMD which execute preliminary steps using MSJAVWU.exe in the same folder C:\$WINNT$.~LS\I386\SVCPACK We launch the install proccess PREMSJVM.exe from SVCPACK.INF (That why we need an exe, NOT a cmd)SVCPACK.INF[SetupHotfixesToRun]"PREMSJVM.exe""MSJAVWU.EXE /Q:A /R:N /c:""javatrig.exe /exe_install /l /qq /nowin2kcheck"""Can we have the PREMSJVM.CMD file extracted in C:\$WINNT$.~LS\I386\SVCPACK ?I would like to use this method in order not to add MSJAVWU.exe in my PREMSJVM.exe archive but launch the install MSJAVWU.exe with switches after launching PREMSJVM.exe.PREMSJVM.CMD to put in SFX silent Archive PREMSJVM.EXEInstall MS Java on WIndows 2000 SP4 , How To Install MS Java on a W2K SP4Posted by Nastradamus, Jan 27 2004, 07:57 AMProbably a bit confusing ?
bilemke Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 I dont like using self extracting archives.. It works, but.. Anyway, I added unrar.exe (winrar cmd line decompresser) to my xp cd by default. Similair to the extract.exe built in to windowss.
Bilou_Gateux Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 @bilemkeI'm not sure the Cmdline version unrar.exe can extract an archive and then launch the cmd file included in the archive.
Astalavista Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 bilemkemost of us here at MSFN use Winrar SFX, Applications that use Winrar SFX. Nero, PowerDVD, Ulead, FireFox, u name it.I think u are in the minority that dont like Winrar SFX.
