Synapse Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 hope the title fits.. lol. and hope i can explain this correctly. *This is Windows XP Home without SP1 slipstreamed*I got an eMachine T2341... it has 2 Restore CD's. in each restore CD there are 2 files with the extenstion .GHO (Norton Ghost). and using IsoBuster I found a file named BootImage.img and BootCatalog.cat.so i copied all these files and used Norton Ghost to open the .GHO files. it looks like a normal C drive in there.. theres Documents and Settings, My Music, Windows, Program Files, Sysprep, etc...and the BootImage.img i opened using MagicISO, it has all the files for a boot floppy along with an Autoexec.bat file that has all text for when the CD is inserted and it asks if i want to restore the hard drive or quit..well... i wanna take the files and make an Unattended CD so that i can pick which crap-ware isn't installed, which reg settings i want, etc...so would i just copy out the I386 Folder from the windows directory? or how would i go about doing this...also.. would it be breaking any copyright laws asking if someone could send me theirOemlogo.bmp *C:\Windows\system32*Oeminfo.ini *C:\Windows\system32*for Windows XP Home or would these files be overwritten when i slipstream SP1?also.. how would i go about changing the branded button in the startmenu? *see picture*
Vadikan Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 I've never dealt with branded restore CDs, so I'll answer just a part of your question.also.. would it be breaking any copyright laws asking if someone could send me theirOemlogo.bmp *C:\Windows\system32*Oeminfo.ini *C:\Windows\system32*You can create your own files. http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/oeminfo.htm

CoffeeFiend Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 Being a ghosted install, your best bet imho is:-Restore those images-Make the modifications you need (apply sp2, updates, add a few apps, ...)(sysprep if needed)-make a new image of it and use thatYou can't turn back your installed windows into a normal windows install disc and add other stuff to it the normal way...
MicroStudios Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 go to this page and you will know how to brand windows xphttp://www.tweakxp.com/tweak683.aspx
^_^ Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 Actually, you can borrow a freind's cd an that is an original Microsoft OEM home or pro depending on your version, and use your license/install serial number. That keeps it legal because you do have the license, and it makes it load without the crap
