October 14, 200421 yr Hi,I have a PC running Windows XP Home and a G4 running OS X. Although I only have one monitor, one keyboard and one mouse (all currently being operated on the PC). I know there are KVM switches out there to allow this all between two PC but not sure about between a PC and Mac. Any suggestions on what to do / use? All help greatly appreciated.
October 14, 200421 yr well i do not think there will be such a device. all the kvm switches i've ever seen operate on ps2 keyboard and mouse connector. and i believe that mac uses usb for the keyboard and mouse. if i am wrong and they use ps2, then it should work.
October 14, 200421 yr you could always try the usb kvms. I would assume they can work on both, but they are a lil more pricey than the ps2 variety.
October 14, 200421 yr you can do it with no problems. You just need the right cables and connectors. My boss and co-worker have a Mac and a PC. It's really easy if you have USB keyboard and mouse.Belkin makes it.Option1Option 2 This is what's on my desk now. But unsuable due to a monitor problem
October 14, 200421 yr Has anybody ever tried that software from synergy? It looks really cool!Ahh... but it uses 1 monitor for each computer. It just shares the keyboard and mouse.Still cool though. I might have to try it
October 14, 200421 yr I use my existing KVM switch to switch screens between my old Mac (when in use), but use a seperate keyboard and mouse for the Mac (since it uses those old plugs)...
October 14, 200421 yr mac does not make ps2 mouses or keyboards. you can try the usb switch, but the 1 main problem is that im not sure if a usb pc keyboard egists. do some research about that first
October 15, 200421 yr mac does not make ps2 mouses or keyboards. you can try the usb switch, but the 1 main problem is that im not sure if a usb pc keyboard egists. do some research about that firstIt does...
October 15, 200421 yr there are usb kvm switches??? WOW!! thanks for that guys!!!now here's a really good question....is there a usb/ps2 kvm switch?and wow that belkin kvm is pretty expensive. i paid like $20 for mine. it's an iomega. works pretty good for my winxp and server (server 2003) computers. is it worth the money on that belkin kvm?
October 16, 200421 yr u also have a software option, check out http://synergy2.sf.net/Does anyone know of any software like this that uses 1 monitor instead of a monitor for each computer?I really like the idea of this software.Edit: Found one but it is commercial software: KaVoom! Software KVM Switch (www.kavoom.biz). Oh, it only works on W2k, WXP and W2k3.
