angrynerdrock Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 I have read as many posts and what not as possible but none of them seemed to have helped. I have JUST installed SP2 on the system, and it prompted me to restart, so i did. Once it tried starting it loaded up the first DOS screen and then tried loading WINDOWS XP.. The blue Loading line just stops, and the system crashes. I have tried running it i NORMAL MODE, SAFE MODE, SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING, SAFE MODE WITH COMMAND, AND LAST GOOD CONFIG. But non of these would work! I would be more than happy to re-boot my system, except yesterday, I paid £40 for someone to come round and set up networking on my two computers, and its £40 I can't afford to waste!! is there anyway of taking out SP2 through the BIOS or something? I don't know what else to do!!
Synapse Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 this may help.. but i've heard its a real pain in the *rear* too do. most people just format their computers and reinstall windows xp... without SP2...http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...=windowsxpsp2kbone guy on a diffrent forum even said it took him 3 days too completly uninstall SP2. as for the £40... shouldn't be too hard too set that up if its just 2 computers. although you may have certain settings that may be needed by your ISP or if you have something strange like token ring or something else besides normal ethernet.Usually this is all you need too do to network 2 computers..1. make sure too set the IP addresses of both computers too almost the same. example: 192.168.1.10 *computer 1* 192.168.1.11 *computer 2* (I used 10 and 11 cause most routers/modems use 192.168.1.1...)2. Make sure both computers are on the same workgroup.thats usually all there is to do on windows XP computers.good luck.
N1K Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 I agree with biohazard, if you must reinstall windows than so be it, but don't pay another £40 for network setup..Just have one computer internet available and MSFN is all you need We'll help ya

prathapml Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 LOL... (at all this 15 bucks and 40 bucks offers) ha haWell, angrynerdrock, if you GOTTA install XP again, anyway, you might as well install it integrated with SP2. And no, as much as people blame SP2 for their problems, its not true. We don't normally bother upgrading a machine from XP (pre-SP2) to SP2. We just slip-stream and install - upgrading is normally a big mess, like what you described. You can merge SP2 into your XP CD, either follow the guide here on MSFN, or you can use this guide here:http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windo..._slipstream.aspAfter merging it properly, you'll not need to worry about "updating to SP2" because its already done by default! And its clean too.
oddbasket Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 don't think you have much of a choice, sounds like you have a corrupted registry. the best way to install SP2 is thru a slipstreamed installation cos its virtually problem free for most. many others who experience problems n performance lags are those who did the update method. its not SP2's fault, its just that ppl's OS tend to get messed up by users over time.
