slickher1 Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 I have a AMD 3000+ and windows update always says that There is a driver update for my AMD.I have xp pro sp1 now.I know from installing that driver that it cuts my processer speed in half.there isnt NO way I know of to uninstall it.driver rollback dont work nether does system restore.so I ended up reinstalling xp.When I go to install sp2 It automatically installs this driver because SP2 has theupdated drivers that it thinks is best and cuts my speed in half agian..is there some way to ether not install the driver when updating or to slipstream the SP1 processer driver into SP2 before I make a unattended disk? thank you
rupert86 Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Maybe the driver enhances the power-saving features of your CPU. That is, your CPU switches to half-speed under lesser load, such as when just looking at the device manager, but when gaming etc. which makes the CPU work harder, it switches back to full-speed.I think it is the PowerNow feature of Athlon XP.Try the real-time clock checker from CPU-Z

DisabledTrucker Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 What I did when I was running XP-SP1 was install it after everything else was installed, through Device Manager, just open the properties up for the processor and install it from the download from M$, then when you reboot it will work just fine. With XP-SP-2 this patch is already included in it, so you don't have to do anything, just slipstream SP-2 over your FPP of XP-SP1 and it will work out ok, you don't have to do anything. I have both an original XP-2002 disk as well as a XP-SP1 disk from M$ (Boxed version,) and both slipstream just fine to SP-2, it's when you take an original XP disk and slipstream it to SP-1 then slipstream it again to SP-2 that there are problems with it. The SP-2 disk I installed this system on was from the SP-1 pre-integrated CD and I haven't had any problems as of yet with the system. It even used the correct AMD driver for the processor, I would have to mention when I set this system up, I used a UXPCD with all my drivers integrated, so everything was ready when I booted. When I did it with the SP-1 slipstream in the past, I integrated the AMD patch into the installation, by putting the drivers in the $OEM$\$\Drivers and just made a call to it in the WinNT.sif file, it worked just fine to install it that way, as Windows XP when installing will look there for it while installing drivers. You need to make sure you have the proper entries in the WinNT.sif to make sure it's looking for the drivers:[Data] AutoPartition=0 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes"[Unattended] DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore NonDriverSigningPolicy=Ignore DUStopOnError=Yes Filesystem=* OverwriteOemFilesOnUpgrade=No OemFilesPath="Drivers\AMD";this is an example I put them in i386\$OEM$\$1\Drivers so my path is .\$OEM$ which takes care of all of them, I don't need to specify each specific driver folder. OemSkipEula=Yes OemPreinstall=Yes Unattendmode=ProvideDefault;can say "unattended" for full unattend. UnattendSwitch=YesHTH. Unless your using a Mobile XP processor you shouldn't notice any slow downs in speeds, if you do just turn off the feature through the power options control panel.
Metzen Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 I have a AMD 3000+ and windows update always says that There is a driver update for my AMD.What type of motherboard do you have?
Bâshrat the Sneaky Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 It won't be a nForce based mobo, as they don't support the PowerNow! feature of AMD...
DisabledTrucker Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 His may not be, but mine is. I don't know if the PowerNow! is working or not, because I don't have a laptop nor do I use mobile processors. I do know that programs report it as working though.
