svasutin
So I was about to slipKB833407and noticed it said the font contained unacceptable symbols.Anyone figure out what the unacceptable system is?
RyanVM
I have no clue, as that version's included with XPSP2 already.I suppose if you have access to an older system you could compare the two to figure it out.
Incroyable HULK
If I remember correctly, they are refering to NAZI symbols
Alanoll
if I remember correctly, they removed botht he Nazi and Star of David from the font set, because people got offended when they were placed next to eachother in the font mapping......Now seriously, who goes through the font mapping looking for this stuff? And why did Microsoft list it as a CRITICAL hotfix, when all it is is a font file....
snekul
They probably listed it as critical because you could get yourself in a lot of trouble with a Nazi symbol in some places. Think about schools in the US, with their zero tolerance policies towards discrimination and racism.
Alanoll
Think about schools in the US, with their zero tolerance policies towards discrimination and racism.THen they alone should ban themselves. Naziism is still around today, though not in the same form. As such, they shouldn't ban it. It's all technicallities.

RyanVM
The sad thing is that the swastika was originally a symbol of peace and good luck in Eastern cultures. The Nazis just hijacked it and turned it into the symbol that it is today.http://www.luckymojo.com/swastika.html
snekul
The Nazis just hijacked it and turned it into the symbol that it is today. That is true of so many other things in politics. Anyway, we should probably leave the politics up to the politicians.
prathapml
Anyways svsaustin,This debate is questionable. That hot-fix is not needed - already included in XPSP2 (and Office 2k3 SP1). So just slip-stream the latest service pack, and you're ready to go.
