Major Problem

My computer won't start at all; safe mode, last known good config.....

I'm really interested in just getting my important documents off the computer and starting everything over. I don't know how to make it start at all so I can get the files. If anyone could help me, I would really appreciate it.

If it's a fat32 partition, just use a win98se boot floppy to get in there, if it's ntfs, then there's WinPE/BartPE/NTFS Dos Pro (and some similar tools I've seen - I remember coming across a free one that would read only). Or you can simply put the HD in another computer...

I think it is a fat32 partition. It's Windows xp pro. How can I make a win98se boot floppy? I have a password on my account. Will that make it impossible to get to? This is a laptop computer, can I still take the hard drive out and put it in another computer?

All right, I've got the boot disk going, but what do I do with it? There's options like start with cd or without.

Is there any way to just start up the computer, and allow me to get files from the my documents folder.

I maybe should have said this earlier, but it may be a problem with the new boot screen I installed. It won't work after that. Please help!!

Strange storry.

Can you still boot?? Can you acces the bios and change which volume you wan't to boot?

If that is possible and you have a fat32 file system then you can boot with that win98 boot floppy and come in a DOS prompt. So than you can acces the drive.

An other way to fix the problem. If your documents are standing on a different partition you can easy instal windows XP again.

If the documents are standing on the same partition you can also instal WinXP. The only problem is when you have a OEM version you must format first and then you lose all the data.

Be carefully with it.

Good Luck

very simple to solve your problem go to best buy, or kmart, or walmart

but a new hard drive that u can afford. not less than 60 gig

make that your master drive. attach your old hard drive as the slave.

install windows xp on the new hard disk.

this is the safest way to retain your data. And it is always advisable

to have 2 hard drives. One for Operating system the other for data storage.

make sure that you install a antivirus program after you install xp.

recover your data, reformat old drive. put back your data to secondary drive.

your done.

what is the brand of your computer is a OEM or did u build it yourself.

if it is a oem call technical support, you may have a bad hard drive.

if it is not an oem ie dell, gateway, alienware, and etc.

try my method... it is fast and reliable way, you won't lose any data
