ISLANDIA, N.Y., August 16, 2004 - Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE: CA) today announced the acquisition of PestPatrol, a privately held provider of anti-spyware solutions, in an all-cash transaction. Financial details were not disclosed.

Great! I guess us folks that ponied up $39.95 for Pest Patrol will end up with the short end of the stick. No notification from Pest Patrol, so I guess it's "buyer beware." Just thought forum readers should know.

LOL

I gave them the boot anyway.....

I tried the bloody thing and the signature that they have want to delete the blocking stuff in the register that keeps the bloody stuff out in the first place and it gives allot of false positive...

I run it every-once in awhile just to get a laugh... ad-ware is by far better

and I use Tauscan v1.65 Build 1212 monitor..

I have never liked there program from the start of it..

I had issue with it when t was a puppy and they more or less told me to F*** O** from there tech support...

About the only thing that is good about them is the removal pages that they have ,,, I have used them many times to fix peoples computer,,,

I run blockers so I don't get infected,, so when it comes time to help some one I look at the reference removals on pages...

I have WinsockxpFix.exe zipped up a disk too give my stepson when he gets here today... Him and his girl friend refuse(Too Lazy) to update the blockers and him and his girl friend visit those bloody sites that get you.. What p***es my off they turn the blockers off then come whining later . the crap they got this time is on the Spyware blaster list...

I left pestpatrol running on there puter to but they turn it off,, SO go figure..

will they ever learn..

Mac!

Coolsites2000,

Thanks for the review & suggestion. I run Spybot & Ad-Aware also. I don't go to very many off world sites, mostly mainstream stuff. The only problem I've found with the blocking software ie; Spybot, is too much interaction, especially when the wife is using the computer. (grin) I'll get, "Honey, a screen just popped up and it's asking me to allow something, what do I do?"

That usually means a trek upstairs to discover that Spybot didn't like an active X control or some other silly nonsense.

I'd like to find a spyware/malware program that is smart enough to block spyware, keyloggers, etc., update it's sig files, and be able to scan multiple drives,

without asking for validation every time I click on website. Now SP2 is dorking around asking me stupid questions too!

If you know of such an animal please provide a link.

Thanks,

@Treeman

ZoneAlarm Security Suite 5.1 - I've been on that since some weeks, and fits the sort of "animal" you have asked for. :P

The link is here - product description.

@Trolls

This post is no reason to flame this thread just because you think ZoneAlarm sucks.

Thanks prathapml,

I prefer stand alone products since I use Nod32, Spybot, Pest Patrol, well you get the picture. Spy Sweeper seems to have the goods I'm looking for so far. I just contacted thier tech support to see if XP SP2 has been giving them any problems.

We'll see how long it takes them to get back to me.

(one day and counting)
