Hi,

I am using XP home version.

I have been having error problems with some of my cd burning programs regarding the "ASPI layer".

Can someone tell me ,in newbie terms, what it is,how it works, and do I really need it.

Where do I check the version of my ASPI?

And what version should I use?If I even need it.

Thanks, Brad

I have an Intel 1.8CPU

Asus P4S333 mobo

Plextor CD/R

Isn't it odd that M$ doesn't support Aspi. Then Adaptec says not to install on Win XP and M$ directs you to that site.Well as long as it works.I'll note that.:)

Maybe my question was too expansive to ask.

But,can you just answer this one simple question.

ASPI stands for Advanced SCSI Programming Interface.

Why the heck do you need it if I have no SCSI device in my computer?

I am runnig IDE devices.

THat is my primary confusion.

im tired, but quickly before i go bed...

when you run install.bat from the command line, install BOTH

c:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat X86

and

c:\adaptec\aspi\install.bat XP32

as a lot of cd burners look for the win2k ones and may or may not work properly without them both, after doing the installing run aspichk and make sure it updated.

theres a LOT of sites explaining how and why aspi works, but i wouldnt worry about it, unless your a programmer, specially one dealing with CD writter software or something in that area

why do you need dll files? ..... its just because u do! :)
