Sammy20 Posted August 11, 2004 Posted August 11, 2004 Everytime I do any sort of action (edit, run) to a file I just downloaded to my computer, a security warning window opens asking me if I would like to continue with my selected action (looks like the same window you see when saving files from the web). How do I get rid of this window? I already have firewall and security centre all disabled, yet it still nags me when opeing downloaded files, even if I already opened this files once it will still pop up warning me about it being harmful. Also, I cant change the 'Internet' to anything under 'medium' in Internet Options>Security. It just pops up saying "Error: The recomended setting for this zone is medium" Anyway around this? Also, is there a website/post out there, that lists all new reg tweaks that have to do with sp2?
cakersq Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 Also, I cant change the 'Internet' to anything under 'medium' in Internet Options>Security. It just pops up saying "Error: The recomended setting for this zone is medium" Anyway around this?To get around this problem, click on the "CUSTOM LEVEL" tab. In the "Reset To:" Field, select Medium-Low (I wouldn't go below that) and click the RESET button. It is a work around, but it does workAs for the "Open File - Security Warning," I haven't disabled that one yet. I'm going to try a few things, such as disabling the Security Center services.G-Luck-CakeRSqCake are square, Pi are round. Mathematicians have their dessert backwards.
Alanoll Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 I haven't been able to disable the security prompts for downloaded files. Microsoft has nothing documented on it either. Surprise Surprise. I'll check the newsgroups though soon. Disabling Security center doesn't get around it.Also, don't be fooled if you open the Custom settings after reseting them. The box will say Medium, but all the settings will be what you reset them to.Blasted Microsoft forcing Security settings down our throats.
nolookingca Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 well, it keeps the id--I mean "users" off poor techs' backs, so it's kind of a tradeoff
