aresgodofwar Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 my friend lost her xp cd, but she still has her product key cause it is on her case (its a gateway). i have a dell computer and have my oem xp cd. can i burn her a copy of my cd and change the product key in winnt.sif so she will have a copy, or do OEMs get different builds of xp and certain keys only work with certain OEM copys?
likuidkewl Posted August 10, 2004 Posted August 10, 2004 If you have a winnt.sif you can most definately try it, but it doesn't work don't be suprised. Dell has a tendency to lock the CD into a certain type of machine. So your best bet is to just try it and if not try to find someone who has a straight OEM cd.
