I added that

reg add HKU\CUSTOM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced /v TaskbarSizeMove /t REG_DWORD /d 1

to my script to unfix the Quicklaunch Bar, but it seeams even much better to fix the right size by default! :w00t:

I'll try it (as soon as my Test-PC ist installed properly)!

As I told you before, I use Felix' reg-file to set the quicklaunch bar.

In Felix' Script I add in

[HKEY_USERS\custom\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop]

Default Taskbar and TaskbarWinXP

Do I have to overwrite his Default Taskbar with my saved TaskbarWinXP as rdalling described it? Or what? :wacko:

Hey All,

The best option and solution for this is very simple ;)

Simply setup your taskbar the way you want it (i.e. 1 line or 2 lines, the preferred spacing for the quick launch toolbar etc) and then logoff - This will save your current user settings. Now log back in and open regedit and navigate to the 

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop]
Key and export the current settings and call the file taskbar.reg.

Now there are a number of ways to add it to your system for all users - my prefered method and from many tests - the safest method is to add these settings to the default user NTUSER.DAT file. To do this follow the steps contained in my guide Customizing the Default User Profile but instead of downloading my example reg file, take the taskbar.reg file you have previously created from above and open it in notepad. Now simply edit the [b]HKEY_CURRENT_USER [/b]entry and change it to [b][color=blue]HKEY_USERS\custom[/color][/b] and save the file. Now you can simply import this file and then unload the hive as detailed in the guide.

The reason I went to Microsoft was the provided solution in the forum didnt meet all the critera I had for the taskbar. It would turn on the quicklaunch bar for everyone by adding it to the ntuser.dat, but would not change the size.

We have spent months trying to figure it out and now I have exact control over rather than using someone elses code.

As-sassin notice my method uses HKLM, not HKCU, and I get my own code rather than use someone elses. I add my HKCU at the 13 min mark and I add HKLM at first login (GUIrunonce in winnt.sif).

:o Oh, sorry, I mistook it.

I'll try to put it in my script on Monday, bcause it's friday afternoon in Germany and I want to go home to my little daughter :rolleyes: ...

Can you explain this better? I can't manage to get quicklaunch work with my desired size. I've tried everything and it always appears with the default size. :(

Can you put here your code so i can see it better? Or anyone can explain how you managed to get this work?

on my regtweaks in RunOnceEx and it worked fine! It puts the quicklaunch to size i want and also enables the Windows Media Player toolbar. Like i want. :)

I used the method that is explained in the first page of this thread, the method that rdalling describes. The problem is that i was putting wrongly this regtweak. I was using another regtweak that overwrite this one. I deleted it and now works like a charm. :)
